The town of Rethymno is overflowing with history and amazing Venetian and Turkish architecture. It is built around the charming old harbour with the fishing boats arriving with the days catch. The new harbour and marina next to it, connects the town with the mainland of Greece. This traditional town is packed with atmosphere, the third largest in Crete, where narrow, alleyways and beautiful old houses mix with modern life. Rethymnon prefecture is situated perfectly in the middle of Crete, between the prefectures of Heraklio and Chania, which make it an ideal base to explore the island.
