Property Details
South House is a fabulous Shetland Croft house which sits on the southern shores of Ronas Voe, about 50 yards form a beach and ruins of a historic fishing station.Traditional but quirky! The nearest house is about 100 yards away, and Ronas Voe itself is a haven of peace and tranquility , looked over by Shetland's largest hill, Ronas Hill. The views are stunning from the house conservatory, and the house itself was sympathetically modernised in 1994, though there has been a house on this site for over 400 years. There is an abundamce of wildlife- seals otters and arctic terns can be seen at the beach. The house has full central heating and was rewired and replumbed, but retains its old low ceilings and doors, rayburn oven and a stove in the living room. There is a supply of peat for chilly days and when the wind howls outside... Area Details Northmavine is an outstanding place of natural beauty, with true wilderness( the only tundra in Britain). There is the best coastal walking in Shetland here, from the well known cliffs and ruins of Eshaness, to the haunting beauty of Fedaland and Uyae. There are many prehistoric sites to be found both in North Mavine and the rest of Shetland and in fact one is just about a mile up the hill from the house. Northmavine also has excellent loch fishing and permits are easily obtained and inexpensive. There are also two very interesting golf courses near to Lerwick, a nine hole and an eighteen hole and one on the island of Whalsay, which is a real challenge. Travel Details The nearest airport is at Sumburgh, about 65 miles away.Planes come in here from Orkney/Edinburgh/Glasgow and Aberdeen.British Airways, and from Oslo, Wideroe
There are buses form the airport to Lerwick where there are two buses a day to Northmavine stopping about 2 miles from the house.
There is also a ferry from Aberdeen to Lerwick daily , 14 hours, and also a ferry which comes weekly from Bergen, Faeroes and Denmark
