Area Details Stresa is located on the western shore of Lake Maggiore; 50 mls from Milan; 25 mls from Malpensa airport and the Swiss border. It is a pleasant, colourful little town owing much of its fashionable reputation to its beautiful setting. It faces the famous Isola Bella and is surrounded by lush green vegetation with snow capped mountains in the background. The town is compact, with interesting old buildings, shops and cafes.
There are some scenic walks in the hills or gentle strolls along the promenade. 1 ml from centre is a bathing lido and cable car; in hills behind a golf course and at the entrance to the village a park with zoo.
Possible excursions include: 3 Lakes tour (Maggiore, Lugano, Como) full day; Milan (full day); Zermatt (full day). Travel Details This is an ideal appartment for anyone not wanting to use a car as there is a train service direct from Stresa to Milan. The Milan/ Bergamo airports are 45 minutes to about one and a quarter hours away, depending which one you fly into. There is a reliable and cheap train service, good boat/hydrofoil services for visiting islands and other parts of lake including Swiss part.
